Porn Star or My Little Pony

Wow, I only got 1 out of 12 correct. Mind blowing. Who'd have thought "Big Boobs Betty" was a My Little Pony?

Michael Jackson, the 'King of Pop,' dies at age 50

Say what you want about Michael Jackson, one thing is for certain, we'll never see another performer like him again (sorry Justin). The "King of Pop" is untouchable. His music and style transcended any line or division you could imagine. He was just that great.

Watching his life unravel over the last many years was a curiosity to some people, but to so many of my generation it was saddening. Hopefully, in his passing, we'll be able to remember him for the amazing talent that he was.

I remember begging my parents to let me go to a friend's house to watch the Thriller video since we didn't have cable. I was only six years old at the time but even then I knew what a big deal Michael was. I had a folder that looked like the Thriller album cover which I carried around school until it was in tatters. I probably still have it somewhere.

Man, that was a long time ago.

Rest in peace, Michael.

Movie Star

When I was around seven years old, my cousin Doug offered me a starring role in a high school film project of his. My younger sister was the female lead. The movie is titled "Escape" and is just one of many of Doug's displays of creativity over the years. I don't even know how many times I've seen this film, but it always makes me smile. And the thing I remember most about the whole experience? How INCREDIBLY difficult and frustrating it is to make a movie with a snot nosed five and seven year old brother-sister duo that haven't a single notion of what acting is. (Doug, your patience must have been incredible.)

Anyway, here's the film. Unfortunately I couldn't locate the soundtrack. Must have been lost in some tragic studio fire or something. As you can see in the film, my children's large heads were clearly inherited from me.

Thank you Doug for such an interesting childhood memory.

The Original

Can this ever be topped? I don't think so.

I Was Better When I Was Seven

I recently boasted on Cake's blog that having sketched Garfield and Odie so often as I was learning to draw as a child, that, without actually having seen either character in years, I could probably draw a pretty mean copy just from memory. By "mean," I must have meant "cruel joke." Here is my 2 minute attempt. Many apologies to Jim Davis.

If you were artistically inclined as a child, the Sunday paper was always a good source of practice material. I remember recreating all kinds of comic strips, but Garfield was probably the first I perfected. Who did you draw as a child? Think you can still do it, without looking? Check out this site.
