Birds Eye View

I took the kids to the park so we could fly a new kite I just bought. Eventually I decided to see if I could get my iPhone airborne on the kite and snap some photos. The phone was whipping wildly in the wind, so most of the images were really warped. These are some of the results.

Very original concept...I like! Hope all is well with you guys. We're all doing pretty great down here. Miss you guys & really looking forward to the Annual Marshmallow Roast.

Those are cool! And I'm just guessing you have good insurance on your iPhone, huh? Would it have covered "fell from the sky while tied to a kite"? :)

James,
I love reading your posts! These are really neat pictures and I'll bet your little ones really enjoyed it. I haven't taken Athena kite flying yet this year, but I bet once I show her these pictures, she'll be raring to go. Take care!

Very cool! How do you take photos on the iphone without pressing a button? Is there a timer?

Only you James! My post would have read something more like, "and I turn my back for a minute to find one of the kids has attached my iPhone to the kite..." You are the coolest dad ever!

I took these photos with a time lapse app. You just set the interval between shots and it keeps taking pictures.

I attached my phone to the kite using some extra kite string and a few pieces of Scotch tape. It was pretty ghetto, but worked. A few more minutes, though, and I think it might have wiggled loose. The phone was flying around like crazy as it dangled a foot or two from the kite.

As far as the risk, I didn't really care. I'm still rocking the original iPhone from four years ago and I'm dead set on getting a new phone this summer. The thing is pretty slow and flaky at this point, so I wasn't worried about it getting destroyed.

See, hun? I totally need a new phone, this one doesn't work at all any more. No, I don't know why it's cracked and has grass behind the glass.

So clever! I'd be worried it would crash and break the phone though...

Very nifty concept!
