Earning Her Name

It started out as a routine follow up visit to the pediatrician today and here we are at the hospital again. After the doctor saw little Amelia, she recommended a blood check for jaundice. The next thing we know, we're being admitted to Children's Hospital and my poor little girl, five days old and less than five pounds heavy, is being stuck in an acrylic box. She has a fairly common and treatable condition that requires her to be under constant UV lighting until her health improves (hopefully less than 24 hours). There's so much I can write about today's rollercoaster of emotion (imagine a loved one in the picture above) and our experience with different healthcare "professionals" but... I'm limited to blogging from my phone right now, so more will have to come later. Hopefully this will be a short stay. I know Amelia will fight through this.

By the way, it was no coincidence that we gave her the name Amelia - it means "hard work" and that's what she's been and done since she entered the world. Come home soon Amelia and take a much deserved break.

I just re-read this post and got nostalgic as the memory of our newborns who aren't so "newborn" anymore.
